Whoever is reading this
blog as an American Citizen needs to take time out their day and go vote. Right
now. It is time to exercise a right that many humans all over the world simply
do not have. It is your moral duty, as someone who I assume cares about the
future of their country. It is your ethical duty, as a citizen of this country,
who simply by using roads or power infrastructure or turning on the water, has
signed a social contract that they will obey the laws of this nation and
participate in its electoral process. One does not follow the other, but in my
mind they are related. And it is your personal duty, as an individual who cares
for other human life as well as their own. The decision on who leads our
country has global ramifications, and will literally effect the lives of most,
if not all of the people on this planet at some point either immediately or
down the murky road of time.
I could go on, but I
think I've made my point. I do care who you vote for, but this is not the
appropriate venue to express that. This decision is yours, and it is probably
too late to convince you in one way or the other.
So go vote! At the very
least it gives you the right, in my mind, to bitch about the outcome – though
that is a guaranteed right, no matter what and whether you vote or not, thanks
to the laws that govern our land. Be proud of our country for that, among a
thousand other things.
